Bringing a Conservation Cemetery and
Land Commons to Southern Michigan

RETURN TO YOUR ROOTS

Our goal is to secure land in which to plant this vision by 2030.

Your support helps us share the vision, pursue grants, and build the foundation needed to bring this place of renewal, reflection, and belonging to life.

Three Unique Places

ONE PIECE OF LAND

Dark silhouette, tangled shape against black background. No other text is present.

PHASE I

A Conservation Cemetery

As a conservation cemetery, Pin Oak Preserve will be a nature sanctuary (that will be preserved for the community forever) where loved ones can be laid to rest sustainably, intimately, and affordably.

Bright white swirling design against a black background with subtle speckles.

PHASE II

A Communal Farm

A space to communally produce and share local, organic, and healthy food for the surrounding community. A space for nature- and farm-based

education for youth and to practice farm-discipleship: to care for the land as the land cares for us.

A Retreat Space

PHASE III

A sanctuary for stillness, contemplation, and renewal. The Retreat Space invites visitors to pause, find peace in nature, and celebrate life’s sacred moments.

Abstract black shape. Jeremiah Commons, a conservation cemetery for Southern Michigan.

Jeremiah Commons will be composed of a residential and dispersed community. It will be a place to experiment with and learn about sustainable and communal living.

Benefits of A Natural Burial

RE-DISCOVER THE SACRED IN NATURE'S SANCTUARY

  • Eliminates toxic chemicals and nonbiodegradable materials

  • Restores and nourishes the local ecosystem.

  • Creates a living memorial and grieving space for bereaved families.

  • Deeply connects the local community to a piece of land.

  • Often more affordable than typical burial or other disposition practices.

  • Reduces carbon emissions.

  • Protects worker health.

  • Improves health for the surrounding human and more-than-human community.

  • Preserves the land forever for those who will come after us.
